Contact info

There are only about a bazillion ways to get in touch with me, but I suppose that the easiest and most reliable way is email. Email is also the most secure and private form of communication if you use PGP (see below). I check my messages throughout the day (and I can't check my phone at work), so email is really the best option.

dave@mindkeep.org

You could also look me up on MySpace or go directly to http://myspace.com/mindkeep.

The quickest way to contact me would be through Instant messenger, but that only works when I'm actually at home.

AIM: mindkeep

Jabber: dave@mindkeep.org

(Jabber is used with Google Talk, which will eventually be allowed to talk to other jabber servers.)

Dave's PGP public key

I use GNU Privacy Guard with mutt for my email. There are far easier setups available, but I like the "stick with basics" approach.

You can use this key for dave@mindkeep.org and most other admin type addresses for the site.

So what is PGP?

PGP is an acronym for Pretty Good Privacy. It can be used to encrypt and authenticate email and other data. All of my email is signed with a PGP digital signature. If you have PGP support in your email client, you can enter my key and authenticate that email is actually coming from me. You can then also send encrypted email that only I will be able to read.

Why do this? Just because? Sure, why not? I'm a privacy nut, but there are more benefits other than just security. For one if all of your friends used encrypted (or at least digitally signed) email, you would have no doubt about the message's origins. Email has no security considerations whatsoever. Right now, I could send a message from my computer that says it is from billgates@microsoft.com just as easily as I could send from dave@mindkeep.org. it's not small wonder that there are so many emails sent with attached viruses.
